Transition From Social Work Level Of Community Supervision...

Provide a level of community supervision based on the releasee’s needs and behavior, and establish a structured environment that fosters respect through communication and structure (DOCCS, n.d.). Transition From Social Work/ Probation to NYS Corrections I feel that after my experiences within the classroom of Social Work classes, and interning at Monroe County Probation has altered my views of the general public and those under supervision in a positive manner. Prior to engaging in social work classes I feel I had a very closed mindset about the perspectives of the world. At this point in my life I feel that I am able to have a professional approach when dealing with clients and people under supervision with the impression of working with clients in a helping atmosphere while incorporating the policies of Corrections into on-the-job scenarios. Dealing with clients at probation has shown me how to work with clients and avoid personal biases and act in a professional manner while showing empathy and properly providing resources for the client. I feel that whomever you work with whether it be a probation client or an inmate within the prison, if they understand that you are ther e to help them and not to hurt them that they will generally respect you on a daily basis. Creating positive relationships with clients/inmates will create a helping atmosphere I believe and in essence create a positive working environment. Certainly, I will be dealing with
